The OceanPortal Project intends to offer a variety of users interested in Ocean Science and Services a range of specific and new technology based services includes. They are intended to assist users in locating web based data and information sources as well as to promote exchange of information and experience between users.

Most of today's Data Centres of the IODE system make their oceanographic data holdings available over the web. OceanPortal is a high-level directory of ocean data and information related web sites.
